Kaarakin Tour Days October 2017 – A great hit
The Kaarakin Tour Days on 28-29th October 2017 were a hit! Thank you to everyone who came and thanks to all our sponsors and volunteers who got involved to make it happen!
There was some novelty this year with the possibility to spend some quality time with Bogong dingo pups. How great was it to pat a Bogong dingo, with the species thought to be extinct in the wild?
For those who are interested to come to the next tour days, they would most likely be around May 2018. If you cannot wait that long, Kaarakin also offers private tours. If you would like to book one, head to their website.
As always, the tours start with the kangaroo enclosure before moving on to the dingo enclosure and then a talk about how you can help protecting our black cockatoos endemic to WA. Finally, the visitors get to enter the interactive aviary, where they can get up close to Red-Tailed black cockatoos, Carnaby’s black cockatoos and a Yellow-Tailed black cockatoo (from over East).
At the end of the tour, visitors are able to browse through the various stands offering merchandising, native plants and honey. There is also a Carnaby’s black cockatoo (or two) on display, often Harmoney, Rex or Chasey, depending on their availability (yes, those birds are busy, working hard on teaching everyone about conservation!).
On a further note, the Kaarakin 2018 calendar ($10) is now available, featuring a few of my pictures and other volunteers’ pictures taken at Kaarakin. Kaarakin also sells new greeting cards, featuring Amy the Alpine dingo, a Bogong dingo pup, a Carnaby’s black cockatoo from my favorite aviary among others. Perfect for Christmas greeting cards! All cards are sold at $2 with the funds being used to take care of the animals living on site. Contact me or firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to purchase some.
